UN Anti-Torture Committee Reports Increased Abuse and Enforced Disappearances of Afghan Refugees in Pakistan

Afghanistan News24: The United Nations Committee against Torture (CAT) has raised serious concerns over a growing number of cases involving harassment, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and ill-treatment of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

According to the committee’s latest report, multiple incidents of alleged abuse and excessive use of force by Pakistani security agencies against Afghan refugees have been documented in recent months. These actions are said to be in violation of international human rights standards.

The committee has strongly urged the Pakistani authorities to conduct prompt, transparent, and impartial investigations into these allegations and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.

It further emphasized that the rights of refugees must be fully protected in accordance with international legal frameworks, and no state institution has the authority to engage in or tolerate abusive or unlawful treatment of vulnerable populations.

The report highlights growing international concern over the situation of Afghan refugees and calls on all relevant authorities to take urgent and effective measures to safeguard human rights and prevent further violations.
