Afghanistan News24: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology says the National Internet Exchange Center (NIXA) project has been completed and is now operational.
The project, implemented by the ministry’s General Directorate of Information Technology Infrastructure, was established to facilitate the domestic exchange, management, and security of internet traffic within Afghanistan.
According to the ministry, the activation of NIXA provides important infrastructure for managing domestic internet traffic and can help improve the quality and speed of internet connectivity, strengthen information security, and reduce reliance on external routes.
According to the information provided, equipment, systems, and technical services worth nearly AFN 10 million were procured for the implementation of the project, with a range of necessary equipment installed at the center.
Firewalls, servers, backup systems, virtualization, internet traffic analysis, and log management systems are among the key components of the infrastructure.
The establishment of NIXA has also provided capacity for the domestic hosting of websites, email services, shared hosting, and other digital services. This capacity can be used to meet the needs of government institutions, educational organizations, and the private sector.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology says the NIXA project represents an important step toward strengthening Afghanistan’s internet infrastructure, improving domestic traffic management, expanding digital services, and reinforcing digital sovereignty.
