Alleged Abduction of 17 Reko Diq Project Personnel in Balochistan Amid Security Unrest

Afghanistan News24: Security concerns have been reported along the Quetta–Taftan highway in Nushki district of Balochistan, where local sources claim escalating unrest and the presence of armed activity in certain areas.

According to local reports, armed men allegedly set up a temporary blockade in the Mall area of Nushki, during which 17 individuals associated with the Reko Diq mining project were taken away.

The identities of those detained have not yet been officially confirmed, but they are said to be linked to mining operations in the region.

In recent days, several incidents targeting mineral transport convoys and their security escorts have been reported in different parts of Balochistan, including Nushki, Kharan, and Mastung.

These incidents reportedly include attacks on trucks carrying precious minerals and destruction of vehicles.

Last week, armed men reportedly attacked multiple trailers transporting gold and other minerals from Nushki’s Saindak area, resulting in damage to vehicles and reported casualties among security personnel.

Similar incidents were also reported in Kharan, where mineral transport vehicles were burned, and in Dalbandin, where several individuals linked to mining operations were allegedly detained.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for several of these incidents, stating that the attacks targeted what they describe as the exploitation of Baloch resources.

A spokesperson for the group, Jeeyand Baloch, claimed that the organization now controls parts of the Quetta–Taftan highway and will not allow mineral transport convoys to pass through the area.

These claims, however, have not been independently verified, and there has been no official confirmation from government authorities.

The security situation remains under close observation, while investigations into the reported incidents are ongoing.
