Afghanistan News24: Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad says that if reports are confirmed that Pakistan allowed Iranian military aircraft to use its airbases, it would represent a continuation of Islamabad’s longstanding policy of cooperating with the United States while simultaneously acting against U.S. interests.
In a post on X, Khalilzad wrote that Pakistan has, for the past four decades, repeatedly made commitments to Washington while pursuing policies that contradict those promises.
He cited several examples, including:
Assuring the United States that it would not develop nuclear weapons while secretly advancing its nuclear program;
Supporting the U.S. war effort after 9/11 while also aiding groups fighting against American forces;
And harboring Osama bin Laden near one of its military facilities.
Khalilzad emphasized that if the latest reports prove accurate, they would be another example of Pakistan’s long-standing double game.
